I noticed in almost all of the DIY projects that newspaper is used. I've found that using craft paper works better. Your markings show up better on the craft paper, there isn't any printers ink to get all over your hands and the fabric, and it's a little more durable. Craft paper is available on rolls and can be purchased at Walmart for less than $3 for a 12 foot roll. Paper grocery bags work well too.

I usually use my seemingly bottomless
stash of brown paper bags from
the grocery store.
It's just as sturdy and
doesn't stain my fingers like
newspaper usually does.
-.-''

I used newspaper for
a long time actually
but I got tired of
gluing the pages together
for those large pattern.
