I made this pillow for a friend's birthday. She always has a tendency to fall asleep at her computer, so maybe this will help her get to bed easier!
I started out with some scrap, soft grey polyester I had leftover from some Amtgard tunics. After printing out a picture of a keyboard- and transfering the outline of the keys onto the fabric with a thin sharpie- I started to work on embroidering in black thread- embroidery can seem daunting and too much work, but with a little patience it turns out to be pretty easy. I could have done it with just a sharpie, or even a 50/50 water/bleach spray, there are a dozen ways that design could be transfered.
After I got that done, I took two pieces of black about the same size, sandwiched around a few layers of quilt batting. Using some shiny silver embroidery floss, I outlined each key, creating a neat raised effect. Taking it over to my sewing machine I did the easy part- adding sides, and a bottom, with a 'hidden' zipper along one of the seams (it'd been awhile since I'd done that, I admit I went through a few tries before getting it right).
I had some soft foam that I wrapped in quilt batting and stiched loosely together, shoved it into the keyboard shell and voila! Sweet dreams of asdf.
