Hi! Okay so I like DIY, but I have no sewing machine so I don't really get to do much but soak up the knowledge most of the time. Most of the things I wanna try end up needing sewed, and I do loathe long sewing sessions by hand. Sooo..

I had a dream last night and it made this idea come into my head when I woke up. I can't sew it, so I just made it look how it would look finished, and you can totally use your imagination with me that I sewed long and hard on it. =^_^=

So. You take a tank top you don't want anymore, and turn it inside out. Then line it up so the armholes are the handles (your seam will most likely be in the center now) and fold the bottom up to the top of it (before you get to your handles). Pin, sew, flip, and voila! Fast and easy tank top purse. You could change the square shape of the bottom if you wanted.

A note, which you'll notice from the sample I did in my crappy picture below, that if you plan on using a tank with a picture on the front or the back, this picture will now be split. If you don't want that to happen, just use a tank that was plain colored or had a simple pattern to it and you'll be fine.

That is a great idea.

If there was a print that you didnt want split, it might work to cut off the straps and leave the front & back as is. You could add any sort of handle, and you would get some neat scoop edges.

I think that looks fabulous! That shirt would be a perfect handbag... I am going to have to dig through my closet and see what I have I can use.
My problem with hand bags and purses and the like is that I always have so much stuff to put in them, so to use a tank top or something the material would have a lot of give and would stretch a bit, and so I think when I get around to making one I'll probably line it with a sturdy material of some kind and maybe add a couple of pockets on the inside, and maybe a zipper or some kind of closure at the top.
Thanks for this great idea!

I actually did something like this recently, as a last minute accessory for a recycled art fashion show I participated in. The only thing was, the tank top I used was a super stretchy material. If I had more time and really planned to use the bag on a regular basis, I would have lined it with a sturdier fabric to make it more practical.

Kudos for the great idea! I'm definitely gonna have to get around to making one of these. At some point. I think I might line the base with duct tape because I use my purses kinda heavily ._.
